At Frittenden CofE School we follow the Canterbury Diocese collective worship planning, carefully adapting the planning to meet the needs of our children. Additionally, we celebrate other religions, special events and British Values through collective worship. Recently, we reviewed democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs: we looked at how these values are evident in our school, our wider community and how these values are present in the Bible and teachings of Jesus.
Collective Worship is inclusive: the leader creates a welcoming and inviting atmosphere conducive to worship, by:
- Playing worship or quiet reflective music on arrival
- Displaying an image, quote or question to engage the children in the theme.
- Welcoming the children by saying an Anglican liturgical greeting /prayer (The Lord be with you...)
- There are opportunities for discussion and active participation.
- Singing
- Giving children the time to reflect and pray
Additionally, we have a Collective Worship gang who help to lead our services by greeting everyone when they arrive, leading the liturgical greeting and saying our prayer at the end. Sometimes they pick the music which we listen to. Children can volunteer to lead a whole-school Collective Worship which they enjoy.
